Here is a theory about our little war that no one has put out on this board but is out in the world . I have been reading on the situation of which I had no previous knowledge and it is an eyeopener . OPEC only accepts American dollars for oil purchases thus other countries have to sell goods and services to the US to get these dollars to purchase their oil from OPEC countries . This allows the dollar to continue to be an economic world power . 1 country went off the OPEC reservation and changed the system to accept Euros for their oil , can you guess which country ? If you said Iraq you are correct . Saddam wanted to piss off the US and it worked . Of course now that we control Iraq it is back to dollars as the currency of choice for oil sales . Were OPEC to formally change the system to Euros the US Dollar would take a huge hit which would be hard for our economy to take . The attack on Iraq served multiple purposes .
Getting Iraq oil sells back on the US Dollar , send a message to other countries that try to go to the Euro for oil sells , place a huge oil reserve under US control and give us a militarily presence to be able to dominate the Middle East . The US does not want the European Union to take over as the "Big Dog" so there you have it .
